Are we there yet?!

At Noah's last Occupational Therapy we worked on feeding Noah diced up carrots.  Noah hated it.  He would scream and cry, turn his head, push your hands away.  He just hated it.  If we put the carrots on a spoon, the carrots would sit on his tongue and it was too easy for him to spit them out.  So then I would put the carrots in his mouth with my fingers and place them on the side of his mouth by his cheek.  He would cry but after he calmed down, he would eat it and be ok.  We got him to eat a good amount this way.  Then when I picked him up from daycare they said he did awesome taking food during the day by opening his mouth willingly, not crying and eating the food!  So, did we pass the "texture" barrier?!

One thing I did learn, while Noah may eat some diced carrots, he will not eat Stage 3 food.  He does not like the smooth texture with the clumpy textures that Stage 3 food have.  It has to be either textured food only or smooth texture food only (like baby food).

So I tried diced pears yesterday morning and Noah willingly opened his mouth and took the food!  He did spit some out, but I think that's just because he hasn't learned how to really use his tongue yet.  He also would pick up some diced pears and put them to his mouth.  Again, however because he does not have fine motor skills yet, such as a pincher grasp, he cannot just pick up one piece of pear and put it in his mouth.  So he grabs a handful and puts it to his mouth and all the pears fall to the ground.  But he's getting better.

Putting a pear in his cheek

Opening willingly

Some still came out!

You know what mom?...these are pretty good! (look at that eye!  He needs his glasses on!)
I am so happy he is progressing with his eating finally!  So I decided to try some diced peaches for lunch and diced bananas at dinner. Both those times did not go so well. He cried, moved his head, pushed my hand away.  He just did not want any!

Throwing a fit!

I am NOT happy!

Not getting any in this time!

Are we done yet?! I said no!

no, no, no, no, no
So, I thought we were there but I guess we're not 100% there yet.  I don't know why sometimes he will take the textured foods ok and then sometimes he doesn't want anything to do with textured foods.  Hopefully the more we try the better he will get at being able to eat it.
